She is the first woman to referee in a glorious FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, let's get to know more about her .
She was born on December 14, 1983 in France. She is a referee. She has been on
FIFA International Referees List since the year of 2009 and she has a refereed several high profile matches. She became the first woman to referee a major men's European match and a French Ligue 1 it was both on 2019, and first woman to officiate in a UEFA Champions League match in 2020.
Stephanie Frappart make a history as the first woman to referee a men's World Cup match. Alongside assistants Neuza Back from Brazil and from Mexico Karen Diaz, the Frenchwoman will form part of all female refereeing trio officiating Germany vs Costa Rica in their Group E.
FIFA announced their appointment last May, when Frappart found out she was going to the Qatar World Cup.
Already at this World Cup, Frappart has been fourth official on the two occasions- becoming the first female official at the men's World Cup match in Poland VS Mexico. Yamashita and Mukasanga also been the fourth official at the two and four games of this World Cup respectively.
"So I am like a role model, for women referees but I think also to inspire women in society or in companies and more responsibility."
"WHEN YOU'RE A WOMAN, YOU NEED TO PROVE YOU HAVE QUALITY"
At the World Cup on the football's biggest stage, pressure of referee of the game is at most intense. A work of a referee make a decisions at least 245 in every single game. As referees work way up to highest echelons of the game, and this pressure changes. Female referees are heavily scrutinized as they two traditionally male-dominated fields: football and also the leadership.
When Frappart began playing football at ten years old in 1993, Women's football registered as a significant landmark the sporting landscape. Frappart's appointment as a referee at a men's World Cup is another step forward in a "very sexist sport".
“It’s not only in football, but I think in every job when you’re a woman … you need to prove that you have the quality and after that they let you continue.”
With the women refereeing and the match at the Qatar World Cup and that is broadcast to the huge audiences worldwide, Frappart hopes that is will encourage more women to pick up a whistle.
“So if you have more referees on the TV perhaps it might make it easier for women to say, okay, this is possible. Because if you don’t know if it’s possible for us, you cannot say: ‘Okay, I want to be a referee.’”
